So my cousin came to me about my hair which as most of you know are wigs so I thought it’d be a good idea to do a post about them since I get asked so many questions. I have been natural two years next month and was driven crazy by my impatience trying to get my hair to a more comfortable length after I big chopped. I wore my fro for a while and during my countless ventures on hair boards I finally thought “Hey why don’t I try wigs?”. I knew sew ins weren’t for me cuz the thought of my edges going MIA has me clutching my rosary for one and two I still wanted to be able to take care of my hair. I wear wigs because I love the versatility and low maintenance and I can have different hair colors while my real hair stays healthy ^_^. I am by no means an expert just a girl who loves wigs.
Ok with wigs there are those with lace and those without. I at first stayed away from lace wigs. because in my experience girls who wear them looked like hoodrat samurai warriors much like this young lady
But I one day realized most of the time those girls are wearing it improperly and in unflattering ways anyway so I have lacefronts. Lace wigs are either fully lace or part of it (the front hence the term “lacefront”). The hair attached to the lace on lace wigs are attached by knotting while regular wigs use wefted hair sewn to the netted wig cap. Lace wigs allow for versatility in terms of where you part your hair, can give a more natural looking hairline, and with full lace wigs you can pull your hair up into a more natural looking ponytail. Lace wigs are more expensive than non-lace and of course the better the lace quality the more expensive the wig usually. My first lace wig was pretty cheap and had this awful stiff scratchy lace. I’m not too pressed to have lacefronts and have owned many more non-lace wigs than lace ones.
Synthetic or Human?
I have never owned a human hair wig. I have never felt the need to spend that money while for a lot it is an investment I’m not willing to invest in them lol. Synthetic wigs come in all kinds of colors and styles and are less expensive but don’t last very long. Human hair wigs last longer but since they are human hair require care just like your real hair such as shampooing and deep conditioning, You can style human hair wigs like real hair because well it is real hair while MOST synthetic wigs will melt at the thought of you using heat tools on them. There are synthetic wigs that are safe to use heat tools on and you’ll know because the manufacturer will let you know up to what temperature. Heat tool safe wigs are so great to have I’ll go into why later but a recent popular synthetic fiber called “Futura” is heat safe and just a great fiber. Synthetic wigs also tangle a lot but there are ways to help avoid the tangles! Now there are some VERY low grade synthetic fibers out there which make up some of the popped wigs you see on the streets but there are so many that mimic the texture of human hair.
Choosing a Wig Style and Color
Wigs come in a wide array of styles and colors. Human hair wigs tend to come in dark brown or black due to the demand for untreated or “virgin” hair but since they are human hair you can dye them. Synthetic wigs come in every color imaginable under the sun but since they are essentially plastic are not dye-able. Human hair wigs can be curled straightened and cut into styles easily, Synthetic wigs have their style set in and can’t be styled by heating tools although some curl their wigs using the boiling method (if anyone wants to know about it I can give details) and coloring them with sharpies and rubbing alcohol (which I shall be trying soon so wish me luck lol). I tend to prefer wigs with longer hair and usually pick those styles, Wig colors come in numbers and letters such as 1 for black 1B for off black 2 for dark brown and so on. I was always afraid to venture beyond the ones and gradually went up to a 2 and 4 (a lighter brown) and then discovered blonde hair and haven’t looked back. Don’t be scared to try new things with wigs they’re not you’re real hair so it’s no biggie! A GREAT way to find out new colors, wig styles, or even see if the wig may be flattering on you is going on Youtube for wig reviews. Yes they have models for wigs but the pics are often not enough sometimes so Youtube is a great way to see it on a real person and they’ll tell you the truth about the quality of the wig.
You Found a Wig Now What
Ok let me stress the importance of the following DO NOT NEGLECT YOUR REAL HAIR UNDER A WIG. Yes your wig will be glam and everything but you should NEVER have your hair looking dozed off broke off underneath! Wigs can be a great way to give your hair a break and get some great length retention! You’re not styling your hair nor fussing with it every day it should ideally be tucked underneath your wig safe and sound. I flat twist my hair which is basically like cornrows but you’re twisting your hair instead of braiding and keep it like that under my wig until I re-do them when I wash my hair once a week. Now please learn from me and heed what I am saying BE CAREFUL WITH WIG CAPS. Wig caps can be bought anywhere I buy mine at the grocery store in a pinch lol. Those things crept up in the middle of the night and sucked all the moisture in my hair! So underneath your wig cap I advise you to wear a satin scarf or bonnet to keep your hair moisturized. To moisturize my hair I either spray braid spray or plain old water and use a butter like shea butter or a natural oil like castor to seal the moisture into my hair then put on my scarf then my wig cap. It is important to moisturize your hair every day or your hair will not thrive under that wig!
Since I own only synthetic wigs I can only give tips and advice about them. To wash wigs I use of all things dishwashing liquid as a shampoo and fabric softener as a conditioner. Basically you run a sink with cold water and a few drops of dishwashing liquid. If it is a longer wig braid it up and then swish the wig around the soapy water and drain the water out. Rinse all the suds out of the wig and fill the sink with cold water again but this time pour like a capful of fabric softener (I recommend Suavitel it’s cheap effective and has your wig smelling nice for a long time). Once again swish the wig around and squeeze it dry gently. Hang the wig up in a place where you can let it drip dry DON’T COMB IT WHILE WET you will rip the hair right out! To detangle my wigs I SWEAR by Johnson’s No More Tears detangler spray you can find it in the baby aisle. It makes knots so much easier to comb through. I use a Tangle Teezer for my wigs which with the detangler spray is a God sent specially with curly hair. When combing your wigs always remember comb from the ends to the roots (which you should also be doing with your real hair), With a curly wig be gentle when detangling you can stretch the curls out. Be careful when storing wigs improperly storing them can cause tangles I store my wigs using an over the door coat hanger:
The two on the end are my cosplay wigs of course lol. This helps me keep the wigs out of the way and looking nice. I also recommend like a standing coat rack when you have more wigs than I do. ALWAYS detangle your wigs after wearing them it will prevent your wig from becoming a hot tangled mess. A good way to keep your synthetic wigs from tangling especially on the underside where it is rubbing up against your clothes is oil sheen spray. Use the spray on the wig comb it out and let the wig sit overnight or so.
Where to Buy
If you’ve never worn a wig before I implore you to go to your local beauty supply store to buy your first one. You can actually try wigs on to see what they look like on you and see the quality of the fiber and the fit. The downside of beauty supply stores is you can usually get wigs cheaper online, they have a smaller color selection, and don’t have a consistent stock. I love Ebay I really do but if you’re new I would not get my first wig through there even though I did lol. A lot of the wigs are from Chinese vendors and are of poor quality or just plain old knockoffs of the pic they’re advertising. I have bought some great wigs from there though and when you get more acquainted with wigs it’s a great site to buy from. Two sites I love and trust are hairwigharlem.com and blackhairspray, com. They have great shipping I get my wigs super fast and blackhairspray is super convenient by storing your previous purchases so you can repurchase a wig you really liked with one click. There are of course many more but those three are my favorites.
So there ends my wig advice piece I hope this helps someone if you want more details or have questions let me know :)
If Yesung has to offer up a formal apology for his post because of all the bashing going on, I will lose some of my faith in the ELF fandom. Saying that someone can’t cosplay as an African-America/African and saying that it is racist to do so is ridiculous! It’s like saying people can’t be Furries…
Sooooooooooooooooooooooo when you were typing this stupid shit you never thought hmmmm maybe me comparing humans dressing up as animals with non black people coloring their skin to “mimic” the appearance of black people is not a good idea???? Have you no knowledge of history of the enslavement, the being equated as livestock, human fucking zoos??????????????????? I’m sorry SOMEONE THINK OF THE ANIMALS AND THEIR FEELINGS PLEASE
Sex is not a goddamn performance. Sex should feel as natural as drinking water. It should not require confidence.
Sex should happen, because the moment is ripe. Ripening lips, ripening labia, ripening cock, ripening pupils, ripening state of being. Ripe and augmented and brimming. Your energy goes to your pumping heart, then to every external nerve, then to theirs, on fire.
You bask, roll, play in it. You sigh, moan, laugh. It’s not about being “good in bed.” It’s about being happy.
One should never worry if they’re doing it “correctly.” Sex is not factual. I don’t want your cookie-cutter sex, I don’t want your meticulously crafted, calculated, fool-proof fuck. I don’t want a show. I want you. Let your instincts, urges and whims define that. It’s enough.
What do most girls like? Forget about it. Statistics are meaningless when there’s only one. Hello, here’s me. Here’s you. Don’t worry about taking it too slow. We got time. We got infinite rhythms, combinations, possibilities. Explore each fuck. Take our time. We can do a different one later.
Don’t worry about making me come. I’m here. Right where I want to be. I am overwhelmed by wanting; you don’t have to convince me. I want you because I like you. So don’t put on a front. Don’t taint this.
I’m frustrated—it’s just authenticity I want. It’s originality. It’s passion. It’s joy. Don’t say that something I like is ugly. Don’t compare yourself to the rest. You will live and die with and within your experiences like everyone else. If someone thinks you are amazing, they are not wrong. Their universe is as real as any other; it is forged through perception.
I don’t care if you accidentally slammed my head into the wall, if you slipped out, if my arm cracked, if the delightful pressure of your wet lips on my anything made a silly sound. There is no right way and no wrong way.
“Good in bed,” what. You’re good in my bed. I’m pleased you’re there. I feel it suits you. Shove your technique. Let your memory swallow it. Fuck me like you’d fuck me, fuck me like you feel. This isn’t a test.
i remember being 9 years old and looking forward to high school so much and getting asked to prom and homecoming dance by a cute boy and having a boyfriend hold my books for me in the hallway and what a juicy plot twist reality is
